Principles of low dissipation computing from a stochastic circuit model

We introduce a thermodynamically consistent, minimal stochastic model for complementary logic gates built with field-effect transistors. characterize the performance of such tools from information theory and study interplay between accuracy, speed, dissipation computations. With few universal building blocks, as NOT NAND gates, we are able to arbitrary combinatorial sequential circuits, which modularized implement computing tasks. find generically that high accuracy can be achieved provided sufficient energy consumption time perform computation. However, low-energy computing, speed coupled in way depends on device architecture task. Our work bridges gap engineering low digital devices theoretical developments thermodynamics, provides platform design principles devices.
